25 th March 2017 - Division 1 Co. League Rd 4

Na Gaeil
0-13
Austin Stacks
0-14

Venue: Connolly Park

Throw In: 4pm

Na Gaeil  played their 2nd round County league Division 1 match  away to Austin Stacks on Saturday last.  Played in complete contract to the previous week the weather and pitch conditions in Connolly Park provided the supporters with  another very competitive game. Both teams gave it their all with some great scores and quality football being played.

Na Gaeil Management requested a big performance from the players against their town opponents and players duly obliged with a very positive and determined display.  Na Gaeil produced a disciplined and committed effort combining with intelligent and quick movement resulting in good scores.  The half time score of Stacks 0-5 Na Gaeil 0-9 was testament to the effort by the players and lead with deserved  4 point advantage.

Stacks, making a few  positional change on the field and introduced a couple of substitutions for the second half were always going to respond and respond they did with powerful running at our defence and reduced the lead to the minimum in the third quarter and going a point up with 10 minutes to go. However, Na Gaeil responded themselves and showed character and belief and rallied again and gained a 2 point lead going into the last 5 minutes of a fast moving game.  Stacks rallied once more and drew level in the closing stages and with a minute on the clock, took the 1 point lead for the first time of the match.  When the final whistle blowing Na Gaeil were beating on a scoreline of  Austin Stacks 0-14 , Na Gaeil 0-13.  Respect and handshakes were acknowledged by both sets of players after in what was a great workout for both teams.

Players and management alike were disappointed after a physical and compelling match that didn’t go their way but were very happy with the performance on the day. Plenty positives to taken from the game and hopefully argues well for the remaining matches of the county league.  A wholehearted team performance by Na Gaeil but special mention goes on this occasion to our goalkeeper, Shawn Duggan, who made three quality saves on the day.  Well done Shawn.

Our next game will most likely be a town league fixture against John Mitchells, date to be confirmed. Our remaining County League games, three backlog games against Dingle, Crokes at home and Firies away resectively are yet to be set but will be announced to players once dates are confirmed.  Training continues as normal and all panel players ask to attend.
